New Delhi: Ajay Maken, who led the Congress campaign in Delhi Assembly Elections, on Tuesday resigned as general secretary of the All India Congress Committee.

The development came shortly after it became clear the Congress will be wiped out in Delhi.

As per trends available at 11:00 am, Congress is ahead in not even a single seat. AAP, on the other hand, is ahead in 62 while the BJP is winning 7.

The Congress had won 8 seats in the last elections in December 2013.

Speaking to reporters, Maken said, “I congratulate the Aam Aadmi Party. People's verdict is above all.”

Maken further expressed hope that Arvind Kejriwal would fulfil all the promises he has made.

“I hope the promises which they have made, they fulfil those... bring those dreams to reality,” he said.

“For democracy's sake, I sincerely hope he fulfils the promises.”
