New Delhi: Bureaucrat-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal was today sworn in as the seventh chief minister of Delhi. At 45, Kejriwal has also become the youngest chief minister of Delhi since it was converted into a union territory in 1956. However, city’s first CM Chaudhary Brahm Prakash (Congress) took office at 34.
In all ruling chief minister of India, Kejriwal is the fourth youngest after Hemant Soren (Jharkhand), Akhilesh Yadav (UP) and Omar Abdullah (J&K). Interestingly, Kejriwal’s age is far above the national average age of all CMs in India, which stands at 60.96.
Former chief minister of Pudducherry, M. O. Hasan Farook Maricar still holds the record of being youngest to become chief minister of India. Born on September 6, 1937, Maricar became the CM from Congress at 29.
Being a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Kejriwal has now joined the league of well educated CMs like Manmohar Parrikar, Omar Abdullah, Prithviraj Chavan and Akhilesh Yadav.
