Arvind Kejriwal appointed probe into DDCA scam illegal: Lt Governor tells Centre

New Delhi: Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has termed Arvind Kejriwal appointed constitution of a one-member commission of inquiry to probe the alleged Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) scam in which Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as illegally invalid, reports said on Friday.

Reports say that Jung has reportedly told the Home Ministry that the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 only allows Centre and state governments to appoint a commission of inquiry. With Delhi being a Union Territory, the AAP government can order an enquiry with the concurrence of the Centre, through the LG.

The decision to form the commission of inquiry came amid AAP's fierce attack on the Union Minister over alleged irregularities in DDCA during his 13-year tenure its chief. Jaitley has strongly rubbished the allegations.

The Delhi government panel had suggested that an interim committee of professional cricketers should manage affairs of the game in the capital.

BJP MP Kirti Azad, who has been campaigning against alleged corruption in Delhi's cricket body, has also demanded an ED and DRI probe into the affairs of DDCA.

The BJP on Wednesday suspended Azad, who has alleged large-scale corruption in Delhi's cricket body when it was headed by Jaitley.

Azad has for years carried on a campaign against what he calls major corruption in the DDCA, which was headed by Jaitley for 13 years until 2013.
