New Delhi: Calling off his dharna on Tuesday evening, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal justified his act and said that it was the ``victory of the people.”

Addresing the media he said that they would continue with their efforts to make the “Delhi Police accountable.” He also said that this was the first step towards their goal of “achieving full-statehood for Delhi.”

He further said, “For the first time, a CM along with his entire Cabinet came to the streets demanding action against police.”

However, the protest route taken by Kejriwal and his men have been severely criticised by all quarters including leaders from various political parties.
They also came under criticism for creating problems for the common man because of traffic snarls and cancellation of the Metros.

The Delhi Chief Minister also drew flak for commenting yesterday that he was an “anarchist”. Experts said that it was unbecoming of a Chief Minister and an elected representative to have said something like this.

Many also asked whether he should be out on the streets, rather than governing. Kejrwial was advised by some to first adhere to the process of dialogue and debate and then depend on protest as the last resort.
Kejriwal called off the dharna after Lt Governor Najeeb Jung appealed to him to withdraw protest in view of the Republic Day celebrations.

The Delhi CM had been demanding action against policemen who refused to carry out a raid on an alleged drug and prostitution ring on Law Minister Somnath Bharti`s directive last week.

He had started his dharna yesterday outside the Rail Bhavan.
