Arvind Kejriwal says not possible to impose odd-even rule on two-wheelers in Delhi

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reiterated on Tuesday that it will not be possible to impose odd-even rules on two-wheelers, which were already been kept out of the plan for vehicles in the national capital.

Addressing a press conference here, the Chief Minister said, “If we bring two-wheelers under odd-even there will be chaos as metro and DTC won't able to accommodate 20 lakh two-wheeler commuters.”

He further said, "Work is being done on the public transport front, bus aggregator policy will be announced in a day or two," ANI reported.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court today sought AAP government's response on a plea seeking quashing of the notification restricting movement of vehicles on the basis of odd-even registration numbers.

Yesterday was the first full working day of the second phase of the traffic regulatory scheme that began on April 15 and will end on April 30.

On April 15, although it was a government holiday on account of Ram Navami, 1,311 violators were fined -- 884 by the police and 427 by the transport department. The number dipped to 678 on Saturday.

The first phase of the scheme was implemented between January 1 and 15.

The scheme allows cars with odd-numbered registration plates to run on odd dates and even-numbered ones on even dates.

Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai earlier today said that the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) yesterday made a profit of Rs.22 lakh as compared to the previous Monday.

A total of 41,11,327 people boarded DTC buses yesterday, an increase of 2.54 lakh over the previous Monday.
