New Delhi: Spanish city of Barcelona today offered its expertise to Delhi Government in urban planning and heritage conservation.

The offer was made to Delhi Lt Governor Tejindra Khanna by a delegation from Barcelona during a meeting here.

The delegation, led by Ambassador of Spain Ion de la Riva, broadly discussed possibility of entering into a Memorandum of Understanding between city of Barcelona and Delhi Government for sharing of expertise in urban planning and heritage conservation.

Showing interest in the offer, Khanna said Delhi needs expansion of infrastructure to cater to the rising population in the city. He said population in the city has increased from 3,50,000 in 1947 to nearly 18 million today.

Khanna said experts from Barcelona are most welcome to share their knowledge expertise in the field of town planning and development.

A road-map could accordingly be drawn up between Delhi and Barcelona for cooperation and experience-sharing in these fields, he said.
