BJP attacks Kumar Vishwas, says women not safe in AAP

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday targeted Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas for allegedly molesting a Muslim party volunteer. It maintained that women are not safe or heard in the party.

"It is a matter of serious concern that one of the minority woman party members from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has complained to the Women's Commission about Mr. Kumar Vishwas, who is a tall leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, and the Delhi Women's Commission has summoned Mr. Kumar Vishwas to explain his actions," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI.

"It only points to the fact what we have seen yesterday in the Aam Aadmi Party that women in the Aam Aadmi Party are not safe and are not being heard," he added.

Patra further alleged that the lady victim was not heard by party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

"This particular lady, as we have seen in the news, had contacted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as well as Mr. Kumar Vishwas, but was not heard. And, that is the reason as to why even being a party member, she had to go to the Women's Commission. This shows that the Aam Aadmi Party is absolutely insensitive towards women. It shows that the Aam Aadmi Party does not want to project women in any important position in the party and outside it," Patra said.

Vishwas has been accused of having a physical relationship with a volunteer in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Vishwas had unsuccessfully contested against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the general elections.

According to reports, the victim's husband has threatened to divorce her.

The victim, who has been living alone for the past one month, has reportedly alleged that Vishwas's wife has been spreading rumours that she found him in an uncompromising position with the poet-turned politician. She has also alleged that she is being defamed on social media.
