New Delhi: BJP today condemned the Delhi
government budget, saying both the Centre and the state had
raised prices in the name of the forthcoming Commonwealth
Games and demanded a stop to this "onslaught against the aam
admi" by rolling back the increase.

"It seems the Congress has waged a war against the people
and is giving a new `gift` of price rise everyday....While
people are reeling under price rise, Congress continues its
onslaught against the aam admi....First, it was central budget
and now it is state budget," BJP spokesperson Prakash
Javadekar said.

He accused the Centre and Delhi government of increasing
prices to meet the expenses of Commonwealth Games 2010.

"Both Centre and Delhi government are saying prices have
been increased due to the international games. The Centre is
saying it is taking the burden of expenditure and now Delhi is
increasing prices in the name of games," Javadekar said.

He criticised the government for withdrawing subsidies on
fertiliser and other items.

"The Rs 40,000 crore subsidy on fertiliser has been done
away with. Government has increased total taxes by Rs 50,000
crore by increasing service tax and prices of petrol and
diesel. Now CNG, diesel and cooking gas has been made costly
in Delhi," Javadekar said.

The Delhi government had yesterday announced an increase
of Rs 40 in LPG prices and Rs 2.67 in cost of diesel.

BJP had raised the issue of price rise in a big way
during the budget session of Parliament and, along with
other opposition parties, forced a discussion on the issue.

"We condemn the budgets and demand immediate roll back
of the increased burden," Javadekar said.
