New Delhi: A body of a newborn was found near LNJP hospital in Delhi Gate area of central district on Saturday morning, police said.
The body of newborn was found around 7.30 AM this morning and also police had recovered a pair of medical gloves and a medical slip from the spot, they said.
Following investigations, police said, it emerged that the baby's birth was premature and the delivery took place at Lok Nayak Jay Prakash (LNJP) hospital last night.
The baby died after the delivery.
The body was handed over to the infant's father, identified as Lakhan Singh (47).
Singh told police that there was no one to accompany him so, he had to keep the infant's body on the pavement while looking for a cremation ground, as his wife had to undergo an urgent surgery due to some complications, said a senior police official.
According to police, Singh works as a daily wage labourer in Kanpur. He and his wife had come to Delhi for the surgery.
