New Delhi: Delhi University on Saturday asserted that the issue of implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the upcoming academic session will have no impact on its admission process.
"We are in the preparatory phase of CBCS implementation. If UGC gives a go ahead, we are ready for that transition but it will not affect the admission process," said DU spokesperson and Joint Dean of Student's Welfare Malay Neerav.
The rollback of the ambitious Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) after UGC's intervention last year had delayed the varsity's admission process, causing discomfort to the aspirants, especially the outstation candidates.
"The admission process has nothing to do with CBCS implementation. It is about syllabus about credit transfer and grading and not about admissions," he added.
UGC had in September last year asked all central universities to implement CBCS from the ensuing academic session following a meeting of the vice chancellors of all universities.
DU had formed a seven-member committee in December last year to propose changes in the varsity's examination system with a view to implementing the scheme.
The committee had submitted its recommendations, based on which the varsity had passed the proposal in its Academic Council (AC) of going ahead with the implementation.
However, its plans were held back by the HRD ministry which questioned the VC about varsity's preparations before doing the same.
While the university has maintained an undecided stand on the issue since then, a communication was sent last week to all faculty deans asking them to start preparation of syllabus for CBCS implementation.
The decision of DU came against the backdrop of a section of DU teachers submitting a feedback of 40 affiliated colleges to UGC opposing implementation of CBCS on the ground that its roll out without exhaustive deliberation would be "disastrous" for the university.
The teachers have also been alleging that the varsity is violating statutory norms in the CBCS implementation.
Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) had also written to UGC Chairman Ved Prakash saying the programme is being "hastily pushed".
