New Delhi: The CBI has unearthed several
units allegedly involved in producing duplicate perfume in the
city and seized material worth crores.
According to agency officials, a case under different
sections of IPC, Drugs and Cosmetic Act and Trade Mark Act has
been registered against Inderjeet Singh, manufacturer of
duplicate perfume, and his associates.
The accused had been running their units at several
places in the national capital including Vishnu Garden in
Khyala, Bagh Kare Khan, Kishanganj and Narsingh Garden,
The factory located at Vishnu Garden was the main
manufacturing unit which used to produce and supply about 50
litres of perfume (1,000 bottles of 50 ml each).
"CBI found 15 labourers working at the premises. The team
recovered more than 600 cardboard boxes containing perfume
bottles of various sizes, shapes and colours -- plain as well
as printed with brand names," a CBI spokesperson said today.
Forty-four plastic bags and four cartons containing bottle
caps, 11 plastic containers of about 30 litres and one plastic
drum full of about 200 litres of liquid were also seized,
apart from containers containing concentrated extract of
fragrance and packets with names of various brands.
"The total worth of seizure by the CBI runs into a couple
of crores and the turnover of the business of the accused
persons is about Rs five crore per year. These are organised
economic crimes which are being perpetrated in collusion with
Government officials," the spokesperson said.
"Various machines for sealing, capping, filling and
mixing were also found for use in production and packaging of
perfume," the official said.
"Similar material and machines were also found at other
units," the spokesperson said.
The accused were supplying the products to business firms
at Har Shri Nath Market and Swadeshi Market at Sadar Bazar, he
said. Further investigation is on.
