New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged the nation to celebrate 'Shaheedi Divas' on Monday as "Desh Divas" (National Day) to mark the death of Bhagat Singh and his associates.

"I appeal to the countrymen to celebrate this day as Desh Diwas," said the activist-turned-chief minister in a video message posted on Facebook.

"Let us together think about the wellness of the nation and do at least one good deed for the nation today which can provide peace to the departed souls," added Kejriwal.

Born in September 1907, Bhagat Singh, one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement, was hanged on March 23, 1931 along with Rajguru and Sukhdev in the Lahore prison.

Their final rites were performed at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district.
