The Met Office has forecast a cloudy New Year`s day Thursday. "It will be a partly cloudy sky Thursday with moderate fog in the morning," said an India Meteorological Department official.

He forecast that the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 and 9 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday`s minimum temperature at 8.6 degrees Celsius, slightly above the season`s average, came as a relief after days of intense chill, especially the season`s coldest day at 2.6 degrees Celsius Sunday.

The day`s maximum temperature was recorded at 18.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the average.

According to Northern Railway, 62 trains coming to the national capital were running late due to the fog, 31 were rescheduled and seven were cancelled.

Tuesday`s minimum temperature was 4.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season`s average, while the maximum was 20 degrees Celsius, slightly below the average.
