New Delhi: Delhiites on Wednesday shivered under intense cold as the national capital recorded its coldest day in 44 years.

As per the Met office, the maximum temperature recorded in Delhi today was 9.8 degrees Celsius, 11 degrees below normal.

The minimum was recorded at 4.8 degrees, two notches below normal but 0.8 degrees higher than yesterday`s 4 degrees Celsius, which was the season`s lowest minimum recorded.

Today`s is the lowest maximum temperature recorded since 1969, the MeT office said.

Weathermen said the next 48 hours would see little change in cold weather conditions, with dense fog likely to enguld Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The Met office said the cold wave is likely to continue for at least another week in Delhi.
