New Delhi: The issue of fake tribunals and
arbitration committees, functioning in some parts of the
country and conducting their business fraudulently, was raised
in the Lok Sabha by a Congress member on Wednesday.

Referring to reports on the issue, Manish Tewari demanded
action against these hoax courts, which entertained civil
disputes, issued notices and summons, conducted hearings and
passed orders.

He quoted the reports as saying that these fake courts go
by the name of `arbitral tribunals`, `overseas arbitration
committee` or `alternative disputes redressal forum-cum-
arbitration tribunal`.

"Some of them have been handling civil disputes involving
several lakhs of rupees and issuing `directions`", he said,
adding that these so-called courts and tribunals "even carried
out `justice` using goondas".

"If the reports to this effect are found true, stringent
action should be taken against those carrying out such illegal
activities," Tewari added.
