Congress, BJP question AAP`s decision on free water supply

New Delhi: Minutes after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government announced the supply of 700 litres of free water to every household in Delhi, Congress and BJP sought to play it down on Monday by questioning how long can the Delhi Jal Board and the state government bear the expense of dong so. Reacting to the announcement, Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit said, “The question is whether public will get what AAP has promised.” Dikshit also said that there were already subsidies and the AAP government has just done some modifications to it. Besides Dikshit, another Congress leader Mateen Ahmad also said that half of the people in Delhi do not have meters and half don`t get water supply, it is now to be seen what AAP would do about it. CEO DJB Vijay Kumar, who met Delhi Chief Minister today, said 20 kilo litre of water free of cost will be provided to those with working meters. People who use more than 20 KL consumption will have to pay for full. Vijendra Gupta of BJP said, “11Lakh households don`t get water at all, what about those families? Who is this scheme for?” “Will they give those families compensation equalling free 20KL water?” Gupta asked. The reactions from the two main parties came minutes after the AAP government announced that it will supply 20 kilo litres of free water to each household having functional water meters from January 1 to March 31, 2014. The Arvind Kejriwal government also promised to review the free water decision after three months.
