New Delhi: The Congress party on Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry over the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) reports of vindication of the tariff orders in 2012.
"In 2012, former DERC chairperson Sardar Berjinder Singh had come out with tariff order where he had reduced the tariff by 25 percent. For certain reasons those tariff orders could never be implemented. The CAG report vindicates that tariff order, and if the facts as reported in the papers with regards to the CAG reports are correct, then it is a fit case for CBI investigation and prosecution," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.
Talking to ANI, Tewari said, "If the distribution companies have undermined the confidence of millions of consumers in Delhi, then it is indeed a serious matter and calls for a concerted investigation and prosecution".
According to the reports, the CAG has said that, there is scope for bringing down electricity tariffs in the capital. The observation was made by the CAG in a report in which it stated that power discoms in Delhi had inflated their dues to be recovered from consumers by almost Rs 8,000 crore.
