New Delhi: A delegation of Congress leaders, led by DPPC president Arvinder Singh Lovely, on Monday met Delhi`s Chief Secretary SK Srivastav demanding the restoration of old age and widow pension.
"Congress leaders today met Delhi Chief Secretary SK Srivastav demanding that the former AAP-government`s unannounced decision to stop old-age and widow pension and other social welfare schemes should be restored to remove the difficulties being faced by the people," Arvinder Singh said here.
"We also demanded from chief secretary that Ann Shree Yojna should not be stopped without making alternative arrangements," party`s other leader Mukesh Sharma said.
Sharma said over 30,000 people`s old age pension have been stopped, adding that for the first time in Delhi, the widow pension has also been stopped.
"The Chief Secretary assured us that the widow pension would be reinstated soon and a Rs 66-crore provision would be made for that. He also assured the Congress leaders that for different schemes, including the old and widow pension, a provision for Rs 541 crore has been made, out of which Rs 471 have been released and the rest would be disbursed soon.”
"He said that by the end of this month, around 1.5 lakh people would be provided the Food Security Scheme cards," Sharma added.
The delegation also included Ramesh Kumar, Haroon Yusuf, Mukesh Sharma, Devendra Yadav and among others.
