New Delhi: Amid reports of Congress being a divided house over giving outside support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), its Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely on Wednesday aid that his party will continue to lend support to the Keriwal government.
Talking to reporters, Lovely said, “Congress will continue to lend outside support to AAP as promised.”
the reaction from Lovely came after reports said that a section of Congress leaders and workers were highly opposed to the party giving outside support to AAP.
The political uncertainty over Delhi deepened as Congress on Tuesday admitted that the party is divided over the outside support given to the AAP and some of its leaders feel that it would have been better if the party had sat in the Opposition.
"The mandate was not for Congress, may be we should sit in the Opposition," party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said.
"There is an opinion in the Congress that perhaps the decision to support AAP for government formation is not correct. Perhaps we should have played the role of opposition and raised people`s issues," Dwivedi added.
Congress workers yesterday protested at the party office in Delhi over its decision to give support to the AAP. The protesters raised slogans `Anna ke sath dhokha, hum nahi denge Kejriwal ko mauka (Anna betrayed, we won`t give a chance to Kejriwal) while demanding the immediate withdrawal of Congress support to AAP.
Divergence in Congress views became more pronounced after release of a two-minute video posted on social networking sites, where the debutant party justified its decision to take outside support from the grand old party to form a government, but also threatened action against corrupt ministers.
"We`ll take action against any previous corrupt minister of the Congress and the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)," it said.
Terming Congress as B-team of AAP, BJP leader Arun Jaitley said both parties have entered into political adjustment on government formation in Delhi with "a self-serving motive" and each wants to outfox each other.
