An on-duty Delhi Police constable was Saturday shot dead by two assailants, police said.

New Delhi: An on-duty Delhi Police constable was Saturday shot dead by two assailants, police said.

The incident happened Saturday noon in east Delhi's Jafrabad area when constable Dharampal, 26, was conducting arms verification exercise in houses.

"Two people came on a motorcycle and opened fire before escaping from the scene. They were wearing helmets," said a police officer.

Police said the attack took place while Dharampal was coming out of a house.

"He received bullet injuries in his head and abdomen and died on the spot," police said.

Police suspect some personal enmity behind the attack.

Dharampal had joined the force in 2010 and was posted at the Jafrabad police station early this month.
