CWG: Delhi govt adopts wait and watch policy

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit held several meetings in her residence with her advisors and senior officials to frame the government`s response.

New Delhi: Under attack after its indictment by the CAG for alleged irregularities in some Commonwealth Games projects, the Delhi government is adopting a "wait and watch" policy and decided not to go all out against the report as in the case of Shunglu findings.

Battling the allegations of wrongdoings, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit held several meetings in her residence with her advisors and senior officials to frame the government`s response.

Dikshit, who survived many a crisis in her almost 13-year stint as chief minister of Delhi, is confident of sailing through the current situation but wary of the fact that her detractors within the party may use the opportunity to corner her.

In a severe indictment of Dikshit, the CAG cited her "active involvement" in the grant of a work that incurred a loss of Rs 30 crore while slamming her government on some projects that led to a loss and escalation of costs of nearly
Rs 500 crore.

Sources said the government is adopting a "wait and watch" policy in dealing with the situation as any strong reaction against the constitutional authority may affect it badly.

The BJP has already made its intention clear that it would not relent until Dikshit steps down. City BJP president Vijender Gupta said the party would start a series of
agitation programme from tomorrow to mount pressure on Dikshit.

Dikshit`s detractors in Delhi Congress have not come out in open against the chief minister, but they are understood to have in touch with each other to see whether they can take advantage of the situation.
