New Delhi: Situation in East Delhi's Trilokpuri was "under control" but tension was palpable in the area, a day after a brief clash broke out between residents of two blocks over vehicle parking issue.

A large contingent of policemen in anti-riot gear has been deployed and the situation is under control in the area, which had witnessed communal clash in October of last year.

Clashes erupted between residents of Blocks 26 and 27. It all started after some youths entered into an argument over parking, which spiralled into street fights during which stones

and bottles were hurled at each other from both sides. An ATM machine and a few vehicles were damaged during the incident.

"It was a brief skirmish and we brought the situation under control within 10 minutes. We are monitoring the situation and force is deployed," said Joint Commissioner (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal

As policemen patrolled the area, shops remained open but there were not too many people on the streets. Locals said that they have spent sleepless night because of tension in the locality.

Police also said that nobody suffered any major injury in the incident and that no one has been arrested in this connection yet. One policeman's helmet was broken in the violence, but he is safe.

Senior police officials, including Beniwal, and DCP (East) Ajay Kumar, had soon rushed to the area to monitor the situation.

Police roped in Aman Committee members, consisting of religious leaders and influential persons from both the communities to resolve the issue and maintain peace in the area. Local AAP legislator Raju Dhingan also visited the area and took stock of the situation.

The communal tension in the area in October last year had led to clashes which left around 35 people injured.
