New Delhi: The Archbishop of the Faridabad-Delhi Syro-Malabar Catholic Church on Tuesday condemned the Uri terror attack and deplored the calls for war against Pakistan, saying the neighbouring country can be isolated internationally through dialogue and diplomacy.

"The terrorist attack on the army camp at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18, killing 19 jawans, needs to be condemned," Archbishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara said.

"It is time for reason and common good to prevail over emotion and retaliation. A war will put the economy back by decades. We must abjure all talks of war. Instead we need to strengthen the path of dialogue and diplomacy," he said.

"Call for war and provoking statements to initiate a war against Pakistan must be reined in. War will affect the economy of our nation," he told reporters here urging "not to deal terrorism with terrorism."

Lauding External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's reply to Pakistan in the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, the former UN diplomat of the Holy See called for more efforts to isolate Pakistan internationally.

"Public opinion in the world has been turning against Pakistan for the overt and covert support it has been giving to terrorists. India has the diplomatic strength to isolate Pakistan on this issue and put it in the dock," he said.

The Archbishop of the four-million strong Syro-Malabar Catholic Church said Kashmir was a political issue and must be dealt with politically.

"The Kashmir trouble is a political issue and it requires a political solution," he said.
