Delhi cop Subhash Tomar cremated with full state honours

Subhash Chand Tomar, the Delhi Police constable who had died after being viciously attacked during protests against the gang-rape of a woman was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Subhash Chand Tomar, the Delhi Police constable who had died after being viciously attacked during protests against the gang-rape of a woman was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday.

Tomar, 47, passed away around 6.30 a.m. due to respiratory and cardiovascular problems sparked off by Sunday`s attack on him on a road leading to India Gate during a violent demonstration.

His mortal remains were consigned to flames by his elder son amid friends, family. Senior police officials, bureaucrats and political leaders were present too.

Among those who paid their last respects are Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Minister Ajit Singh and his son Dyushyant Chaudhary, MoS (Home) RPN Singh and Home Secretary RK Singh.

Additional Commissioner of Police VV Chaudhary said that Tomar was an "exceptionally sincere and hard working" policeman who had earned 77 commendations since joining Delhi Police in 1987.

The anguished family blamed the violent protesters for Tomar`s death.
