New Delhi: Trade union leader Gopal Mishra,
charged with having links with outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), was on Wednesday denied bail by a Delhi court.
Additional Sessions Judge Narender Kumar denied bail to
Mishra, who along with his wife Kanchan Bala alias Anu, is
accused of having links with the banned terrorist organisation
and committing offences under the Unlawful Activities
(Prevention) Act.
Mishra had sought bail on the ground that his wife had
been granted bail by the high court on March 12.
The ASJ, however, held that his case was different from
his wife as he is accused of not only being a member of the
banned outfit but further used to incite people to violence.
43-year-old Mishra was arrested by Special Cell of the
Delhi Police on April 26 last year from Shahdara in East Delhi
and was found carrying various documents and a CD containing
material related to CPI (Maoist). His wife Anu was arrested a
day later.
The duo have been charged with having links with outlawed
Communist Party of India (Maoist) and for committing offences
under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The two were charged under the provisions of stringent
anti-terror law after recovery of some documents from their
possession which "lay emphasis" on capturing political power
through armed rebellion.
The police has alleged that Mishra and his wife used to
visit colleges here to hold meetings and seminars and to
distribute leaflets on Maoist ideology among youths.
