Delhi EC conducts marathon to encourage voters

To create awareness among voters and ensure increase in voter turnout, the Delhi Election Commission is organising a chain of events in all eight assembly constituencies ahead of the upcoming polls.

New Delhi: To create awareness among voters and ensure increase in voter turnout, the Delhi Election Commission is organising a chain of events in all eight assembly constituencies ahead of the upcoming polls.
As a part of its Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign, a marathon was organised today from District Park, Prashant Vihar to Japanese Park in Rohini, which witnessed huge turnout.

National and international sports personalities like Olympian Sushil Kumar, Dronacharya Awardee Yashveer Dabas, silver medalist in World Wrestling Championship Amit Dahiya, Asian Judo Champion Meenal Taneja were among those who participated in the event.

They also appealed to the citizens to register themselves in the voter roll and exercise their franchise.

The commission also honoured senior most voters of the district, aged 100 years and above for their continued participation in the electoral process.

Delhi`s Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev and District Election Officer-North west, Udit Prakash Rai awarded the oldest voter, 105-year-old Ganga Devi, for being a source of inspiration to young voters.

Other elders who were honoured include Jaswant Kaur, Draupadi Devi,?Geeta Devi, Maman Chandra Sharma, Devi Das and Kartara.
