New Delhi: Delhiites witnessed the coldest day of the season on Tuesday with day temperatures remaining below normal but a less-foggy day ensured that operations at the international airport remain largely unaffected.

However, weather conditions in the rest of north India forced the delay of over 55 trains coming to Delhi, including the Rajdhanis from Howrah, Patna and Jammu. Twelve trains from New Delhi have been rescheduled.

The sky was very clear this morning unlike yesterday when heavy fog descended on the capital reducing visibility level on roads to near zero and delaying over 50 flights.

The minimum was recorded at 4.8 degree Celsius, three notches below normal, while the maximum was 20.4 degrees, two units below normal, MeT officials said. Today's maximum was the lowest this season so far.

This is the second time in the last four days that the minimum temperature went below five degree Celsius. Prior to this day, the coldest day of the season was December 16 when minimum dropped to 4.7 degree Celsius and maximum to 21.7 degrees.

According to the MeT office, the minimum temperature will go up to seven degree Celsius tomorrow and there will be fog in the morning.

At the airport, the situation was far better from yesterday with no delays due to weather in the capital. Though some flights were delayed, it was due to poor weather conditions at the destinations.

Most of the flights departing from here were largely on schedule, an airport official said.

Flights mostly to cities like Lucknow, Port Blair, Kolkata, Patna, Chandigarh were delayed due to poor weather conditions there.
