Delhi gang-rape victim passes away `peacefully` in Singapore Singapore: A young woman who was flown to Singapore after her brutal gang-rape and torture in the Indian capital died here early Saturday, the Mount Elizabeth Hospital announced.

The victim, whose name has not been revealed, passed away "peacefully" at 4.45 am with her distraught family and Indian diplomats by her side, hospital official Kelvin Loh said in a statement.

"We are very sad to report that the patient passed away peacefully at 4.45 am," Chief Executive Loh said. "Her family and officials from the high commission of India were by her side."

The 23-year-old woman suffered multiple-organ failure after she was raped by six men in a moving bus in Delhi for about 40 minutes on December 16 and dumped her by a roadside.

Her male friend was also badly beaten up and thrown out of the bus.

All six accused, including one who is said to be juvenile, have been arrested and are in Delhi's Tihar Central Jail.

Authorities in India shifted the woman, who had been on ventilator support since her rape, to Singapore on Thursday in last ditch attempt to save her life.

"Despite all efforts by a team of eight specialists in Mount Elizabeth Hospital to keep her stable, her condition continued to deteriorate over these two days," Loh said.

"She had suffered from severe organ failure following serious injuries to her body and brain.”

"She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome."

BD Athani, the medical superintendent of Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, said the woman had been speaking to her mother and other family members earlier, giving the impression that she would somehow survive.

But her condition deteriorated rapidly after the operation, with a fatal infection spreading to her chest, lungs and intestine, he said.

India's High Commissioner to Singapore, TCA Raghavan, said the woman's family was "shattered".

"The scale of her injuries (was) very great," Raghavan told the media.

"It was very trying for the family. The girl of course was unconscious...”

"I must say they (the family) bore the entire process with a great deal of fortitude and a great deal of courage."

He said arrangements were on to take the body to India in line with the family's wishes.

The horrific gang-rape, in which the rapists used an iron rod to torture her, triggered angry demonstrations across India against growing sexual crimes against women.

Till the SHO of that area is not terminated where (any) the rape is done, these type of crime will not stop. Police officers must be removed from the service than only they will do there duty. Now police ME DAR HONA CHAHIYE AGAR MERE AREA ME RAPE HUWA TO MERE NAUKARI JAYEGI THAVI RAPE CASES RUKENGE.

Just giving death sentence to the culprits is not going to even out the injustice done. The accused should be made to realise their sins and should be chemically neutered for ever. Further they should be made to undergo open public service in the honour of the raped and killed without any service fee except feeding them for two times a day

We all need to buy guns and ammunitions for protecting ourselves. No police and govt can help us. Only talks and talks. Still after this incident rape incidences are going on in many villages, city and states. Not only girls, woman its boy and man all need to carry self protective devices for self defence. Police is nobody in our country now.

Please take action against the politicians too! For their petty politics, the entire law and order has gone awry.

What is the law to curb the dirty politics and what actions can be taken against these policiticans. Its actually nothing. Maximum suspension order will be passed and then they will join in after 2months and so. Salary also will be provided to them during suspension.People should come forward into this for self defense, seems like we need to carry guns now on for defense and all.

Govt ashamed all INDIANS with no action plan YET - Delhi
Every person across Political fraternity is trying to take advantage of this critical scenario. Cashing the VOTE BANK. Condoling messages from all leaders including PM on girl`s death is not what is expected. INDIA wants ACTION. She LOST her LIFE in hope of justice however I`m sure the FIRE she broke in INDIANS is not gonna last n end like this. This will take an awesome toll. Scene would`ve been totally different if political leaders`s child would`ve been in victim`s place. Government has time to decide n push HUGE police force to stop demostrations however it`ll take AGES to decide the punishment. Those CULPRITS should not be HANGED. They should be cut in pieces @ INDIA GATE & allowed to feel the pain. Media should cover this to make money. This way at least 1 JOB will be done by our respected PM to set an example for others. Our Delhi Police is more interested in making money than supporting people. The sufferer who visit them, is always made HUMILIATED & forces them to commit suicide. WHY? Is that the MODERN INDIA we wished. SHAME !!! It cant be worse than this. INDIA is disappointed.

A very strong message needs to go out! All the accused in the rape, should be hung in public or stoned to death. This should be telecast across the country - no one should dare commit such an act of brutality ever again.

December 29, 2012....a Black Day in the name of freedom and fundamental rights for the world`s largest democracy. We don`t know your name but we know well that you were the best teacher who taught us to listen the voice of suffered, who taught us to fight back for our rights and justice, who taught us how to consolidate the real democratic power for a great change. You were our brand of nationalism. Salute to YOU. We will always remember your Pain, Struggle and Courage. May our Hero rest in peace, and may God give her family strength. INDIA salutes YOU....!!!

This news influenced Pakistan for a great many days as well and we are truly devastated on her death. I hope your government exonerates Damini by punishing those six animals with the worst possible punishment.
