New Delhi: Cracking its whip against the clinics conducting sex determination of foetuses in the capital, Delhi government has cancelled the registration of 43 radiology and genetic clinics and sealed 11 machines since April this year.
"Since April, the Revenue department has conducted inspections in 299 places to check for violations of PC&PNDT Act during which 96 show cause notices were issued and 38 complaints were investigated," Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Ankur Garg said.
The raids were conducted by the Deputy Commissioners and Sub-divisional Magistrates.
Besides cancelling 43 registrations, the Delhi government also filed cases against five violators.
"It is now in the process of initiating legal proceedings against another five," said a senior Delhi government official.
The sex ratio in the capital was 866:1000 in 2011 which improved to 895:1000 in 2013, but the number was still far below the national average of 940:1000.
The city figured among the 10 worst performing states with sex ratio.
