Delhi govt earns Rs 33.5L from e-auction of fancy registration numbers

The government has now earned more than Rs 2.21 crore from four rounds of e-auction of fancy numbers.

The fourth round of e-auction of the fancy or VIP registration numbers concluded today with 14 bidders walking away with numbers of their choice after participating in an online auctioning process.

According to the transport department, the number 0001, which had a minimum reserve price of Rs 5 lakh, was sold for Rs 8.75 lakh while the number 0007 went for Rs 5.50 lakh.

"In the fourth round, we received revenue of Rs 33.50 lakh after auctioning 14 fancy numbers," the department said.

The third highest bid, of Rs 3.30 lakh, was received for 0003 followed by 0009 which saw a final offer Rs 3 lakh. The number 0011 was sold for Rs 2.10 lakh.

The transport department will every month hold e-auction of fancy numbers, open to motorists looking to secure fancy registration numbers.

The government has so far earned Rs 2,21,40,000 from the e-auction of fancy registration numbers.

In the first round of e-auction, one particular number had fetched Delhi government Rs 12.5 lakh as it collected a total of over Rs 72 lakh in the opening exercise.
