New Delhi: In good news for nearly one
million residents of Dwarka, Delhi government will launch a
low floor shuttle bus service on Monday to improve local
transportation in the sub city.
The shuttle service, which will also provide a better
connectivity from Dwarka to Indira Gandhi International
Airport, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
A senior transport department official said the need
for the service was felt because Dwarka lacked a proper local
public transport system.
He said the new shuttle service, which will also have
air-conditioned buses, will cover all the sectors to ensure
that the residents don`t find it difficult to travel within
the sub-city.
"It has been a long-standing demand of the residents
here as we often find it difficult to travel within the
sub-city," said Arijit Sarkar, a resident of Dwarka.
Kumud Shekhar, another resident of the sub city, said
people have to shell out Rs 15 to 20 in cycle rickshaws and
more in autos to get to the Metro stations.
"The incidents of chain or purse snatching often occur
when women travel by cycle rickshaws, mostly in the afternoons
and evenings. The shuttle service will provide great relief to
us," he said.
