Delhi govt to hold consultations on laws against rape

In the wake of the gang-rape of a girl in a moving bus in Delhi, Women and Child Development Ministry will hold consultations involving experts to examine the functioning of laws against rape.

New Delhi: In the wake of the gang-rape of a girl in a moving bus in Delhi, Women and Child Development Ministry will hold consultations involving experts to examine the functioning of laws against rape.
WCD minister Krishna Tirath has decided that the consultations to review the functioning of the laws would involve experts from various ministries, state governments, judiciary police, state governments and others with relevant expertise, sources told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Tirath had met Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and called for swift punishment to the accused in the gang-rape of the 23-year-old girl.

Tirath had earlier visited Safdarjung Hospital to inquire about the condition of the gang-rape victim where she had assured her family of speedy justice.
