New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday gave a number of directions to the city government, DDA and a panel appointed by it on creating infrastructure like additional district courts and accommodation for the lower judiciary.
A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and RK Gauba issued the directions, which also include leasing of buildings owned by Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) for the purpose of providing accommodation to judges of lower judiciary.
The court gave the direction after Delhi Development Authority (DDA) informed it that majority of the empty buildings in the city are owned by LIC.
The bench also directed the authorities to consider adding semi-permanent floors in existing court buildings in Rohini and Dwarka, subject to control norms like fire safety, in order to make more court rooms for recruiting judges.
It asked the authorities, including the panel, to also explore setting up of a district court for Outer Delhi at Tikri Khurd and one for east Delhi at Yamuna sports complex.
It also asked its own committee to direct the authorities to explore the possibility of maximum coverage of floor area ratio (FAR) in existing court complexes.
After issuing these directions, the court listed the matter for further hearing on July 17.
The court was hearing a plea filed by advocate RK Kapoor seeking recruitment of more judges in lower judiciary as well as creating infrastructure like more court rooms and accommodation for them.
