The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response from the AAP government, NDMC and others on a plea seeking imposing of complete ban on unauthorised parking at Sarojini Nagar market area here.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response from the AAP government, NDMC and others on a plea seeking imposing of complete ban on unauthorised parking at Sarojini Nagar market area here.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath issued notice to Delhi government and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), commissioner of police and others and asked them to file their replies in four weeks.

The bench posted the matter for further hearing on November 4.

The plea filed by Chander Bhushan, a resident of Sarojini Nagar, alleged that a well established racket is being run by parking mafia in connivance with local authorities at the market.

During the brief hearing, counsel appearing for Bhushan said that the NDMC has leased out all the four parking sites of Sarojini Nagar market to DLF company out of which only the parking site of Sabzi Mandi has a authorised parking space.

He claimed that the unauthorised parking racket is being run by parking mafia in connivance with local police, traffic police and DLF Ltd., the contractor and civic body officials.

The plea further said that this practice is being adopted not only in Sarojini Nagar but in other parts of capital also.

It said strict rules and regulations are required to be made in this regard so that the public would get maximum benefit of the parking facility instead of facing problems like the present case of Sarojini Nagar.
