New Delhi: Taking forward the first step towards formalisation of Resident Ward Committee scheme, Delhi mayor Rajni Abbi on Sunday addressed a meeting of the convenors of first 70 wards where RWCs have so far been formed.

Abbi said that the RWC scheme has the potential to bring accountability and transparency in civic governance.

She, however, said that every new idea finds resistance and there needs to be patience.

The mayor said she was often petitioned by councillors on the matter. "However, we have to accommodate everyone's concerns to ensure that the scheme becomes a model for the future," Abbi said.

The RWC scheme has been constituted by involving one representative from each RWA within a ward and will be chaired by the municipal councillor of the ward.
