New Delhi: The personal security guard of Delhi MLA Shoaib Iqbal allegedly opened fire in the air after a group of people got into an argument with the lawmaker over digging work for laying a water pipeline, police said.

The incident took place in Turkman Gate in central Delhi at around 1:30 pm when Iqbal went there to inaugurate the digging work, a senior police official said.

Some locals, who were against the laying of pipelines, got into an argument with the MLA and objected to the inauguration of the project, the official said.

The PSO allegedly opened fire in the air as the situation appeared going out of control, he said, adding no one was injured in the incident.

However, Iqbal's cousin Omar Farooq alleged that a Congress leader's brother opened fire at the MLA during the argument.
