New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday said it is initiating action against an Inspector who was shown in a sting operation as making allegedly loose comments about women who were rape victims.

"Police Commissioner BK Gupta has taken a serious note of the issue. Strict action will be initiated," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.

A sting operation by a news magazine and aired on a TV channel claimed more than half of the police officers they interviewed using hidden cameras had "shockingly ugly views on rape victims".

Bhagat said only one officer of Delhi Police was among the 30 officers shown in the sting operation and it was an "abberation".

He said the city police has a strong institutional mechanism to handle women complainants approaching the force.

"We have not so far received any complaint from victims in this regard," Bhagat said.
