New Delhi: DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal today approached police along with a physically-handicapped sex worker seeking registration of a case against the family members of the woman's live-in partner, who allegedly have confined him in their house as they were opposed to the relationship.
According to DCW sources, the complainant along with some other sex workers of G B Road today met the Delhi Commission for Women chairperson claiming that her live-in partner's family members were torturing him and had confined him to their house in Chandani Mahal area and sought help in the matter.
"According to the woman, she was in a live-in relationship with the man. She was a sex worker but had left the trade some years ago and had been living in with the man, who is also physically handicapped, in Mangolpuri. But two months ago his family came to know about her past, following which they took him away after thrashing him and confined him at their house, not allowing him to meet her," a source said.
"The woman then came to live at G B Road again and she met Maliwal last week during her visit to the area. Today the worker approached her seeking her help in the matter," the source said.
The source also claimed that the man had also reached DCW office but he later disappeared. DCW officials suspect that his family took him away.
Maliwal then went with the woman to Kamla Market Police Station and demanded that an FIR be lodged against the family members, the source added.
A senior police official said, "We have received the complaint. Both parties shall be questioned and further action will be taken accordingly."
