Delhi to mark third car-free day on Tuesday

Delhi will mark its third car-free day on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Delhi will mark its third car-free day on Tuesday with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal leading a cycle rally.

The monthly exercise, started by the city government in October, is aimed at curbing air pollution. It will be observed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

"It will be organised in Laxmi Nagar area in east Delhi," city Transport Minister Gopal Rai said.

Rai said people will not have much problem as there were three Metro stations on the designated stretch.

The increasingly toxic air in the capital prompted the judiciary to nudge the state government to check pollution. Reacting to the crisis, the city government has decided to allow even-odd numbered private vehicles on alternate days from January 1.
