New Delhi: A Delhi court Monday sent to seven days` police custody the man who shot dead a woman at Sarai Kale Khan here for allegedly interfering in his relationship with her friend.

Metropolitan Magistrate Namrita Aggarwal remanded the accused, 25-year-old Munshi Yadav, in police custody till March 4 for taking him to Bihar`s Saharsa district to find out the source of the weapon he used in the crime.

Police sought Yadav`s custody as he had bought a home-made pistol from Bihar`s Saharsa district. That was the weapon with which he twice shot Pooja Sunday near Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) and a PCR van. She was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where she died of her injuries.

Yadav shot dead Pooja, 25, as she was opposed to his relationship with her friend, who was working under her allegedly as a sex worker, according to police.

As Pooja was not allowing her friend to marry Yadav and go with him, he went to Bihar and bought a pistol and nine bullets to eliminate her.

The accused was looking for an opportunity to kill Pooja, a resident of Bhajanpura in east Delhi, since Sunday morning, according to police.

Police booked him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Arms Act as seven bullets have also been recovered from him.

Police told the court they need his custody to know the source from where he bought the weapon. When Yadav was trying to escape after shooting Pooja, some passers-by caught and handed him over to police.

Pooja was standing near the Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminal in south Delhi when she was shot Sunday night.
