New Delhi: Mercury touching a sizzling 44.6 degree Celsius coupled with high humidity on Tuesday spelt trouble for Delhiites even as the weatherman indicated no respite tomorrow with temperature likely to touch 46 degrees.

Today's maximum was up by 1.2 degrees from yesterday while the minimum was recorded at 29.6 degrees, down from previous day's 30.2 degrees.

The maximum temperature was four degrees above normal while minimum was three degrees above the normal temperature for this time of the year.

High humidity also added to the woes of Delhiites as it oscillated between 14 per cent and 63 per cent.

The weatherman predicted no relief for the capital, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 46 degrees. The minimum could be around 30 degrees.

Delhiites were battling scorching heat for the past few days. The maximum had touched 45.4 degrees earlier this month, the season's highest.

The last time the temperature surpassed the 44-degree mark in the month of May was in 2006 when the seventh day of the month recorded 44.5 degrees.

The previous highest in the decade was recorded on May 19, 2002 when it touched 46 degrees. The all-time record for the month was on May 29, 1944 when the mercury touched 47.2 degrees.
