Delhi's Lt Governor, CM need to work as per Constitution: Rijiju

Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Monday urged both Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to work as per the Constitution in the discharge of their governance-related duties.

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Monday urged both Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to work as per the Constitution in the discharge of their governance-related duties.

"Delhi is a Union Territory. We all have to understand that Delhi is not a full-fledged state. The lieutenant governor has certain constitutional duties and responsibilities. Chief Minister (Arvind Kejriwal) also has certain duties and responsibilities. We all have to work under a set-up which is there in the Constitution. I cannot comment something extra beyond that," Rijiju told ANI.

Earlier, Jung, while referring to the Constitution, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act, 1991 and the Transaction of Business Rules, said the role of the chief minister and the council of ministers is to aid and advise him.

The Lieutenant Governor's direction came after Kejriwal's instruction to all the departments not to send files to the former's office.

He also asked that directions issued to the officers be withdrawn immediately.
