New Delhi: Delhi`s Vasant Valley school has left behind Valley School Bangalore and the city`s Shri Ram School to emerge as the best day education institution for children in a country-wide survey that also figures two other schools from the capital in the top 10.
The survey featured opinions of over 3,000 parents, teachers, and educationists spread across 21 cities who were asked to rate 443 of India`s best known schools on 14 parameters.
While Vasant Valley emerged as the best, Valley School Bangalore was rated as the second best day school in the country, piping last year`s topper Shri Ram School to the third spot, also shared by Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai.
The poll by EducationWorld-C fore asked respondents to vote among the 443-odd schools in three categories -- day, boarding and international schools, and the parameters included besides academic reputation and infrastructure the quality of extra curricula and sports education as well as friendliness to the disabled and competence and welfare of the faculty.
Besides Vasant Valley and Shri Ram School, two other Delhi schools featured in the top 10 -- DPS, R K Puram (Fifth) and Springdales, Dhaula Kuan (Seventh).
Sanskriti school and Mother`s International which were in the top 10 category in the last year`s survey were missing from the lead this year.
On the list of boarding schools, the Rishi Valley School, Chittoor retained its top spot while The Doon School, Dehradun was rated as the second.
Indus International School, Bangalore and Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai were the top two schools in the international school category, according to the survey.
The researchers say the results indicate a tilting towards institutions that are ready to offer new and experiment pedagogies to make the experience of learning more friendly to children.
"Within parent and teacher communities, there`s new awareness that school education should be an engaging, joyful and life skills development experience for children.
"Therefore, so-called alternative schools which profess holistic, new pedagogies have become more popular and have moved up the tables," says Premchand Palety, founder-chief executive of market research agency C Fore (Centre For Forcasting and Reserach).
Among the other top 10 day schools that emerged in the survey are Step by Step, Noida, Sulochanadev Singhania School, Thane, and Centre for Learning Bangalore, among others.
