New Delhi: A resident doctor at Lady Hardinge Medical College here on Wednesday allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the terrace of the house surgeon building of the hospital.

He suffered severe head injuries and fractures in the body and is now undergoing treatment at the AIIMS trauma centre.

The incident occurred at around 7.15 am, a senior offficial with the Lady hardinge Medical College said.

"This boy was found lying in a pool of blood next to the house surgeon building. Passersby said that he jumped from the terrace of the building. Police is trying to find out the reason behind this ghastly attempt," he said.

"He is Naseer, a junior resident doctor with the gynaecology department of the hospital. All rumours floating around that he attempted suicide because he was not allowed to go on leave is completely baseless. We have found that he has not applied for leave till now."

Meanwhile, doctors at the AIIMS trauma centre said that the condition of Naseer is critical but stable.

Dr Deepika Agarwal, associate professor, AIIMS trauma centre neurosurgery department said, "His conditon is critical but stable. He has severe head injuries and fractures in the chest and other injuries too. We are monitoring his condition."
