Voting a holy practice, public will win: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party's CM face, Arvind Kejriwal, cast his ballot on Saturday.

Talking to reporters outside his residence before leaving for his polling booth in BK Dutt colony, Kejriwal described voting as a very “holy practice” and urged people to exercise their franchise.

He further expressed confidence that “truth will win, public will be victorius in this election”.

“People want freedom from corruption, bribery and I am hopeful they will vote accordingly,”said Kejriwal.

Alleging that liquor and money were distributed last night, Kejriwal urged Delhiites not to vote for parties which did it.

He, however, did not react when asked about an appeal made by Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari to vote for the AAP.

On microblogging website Twitter, Kejriwal urged people to pray to God and cast their ballot.

Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly began at 8 am on Saturday.

A total of 673 candidates are in the fray for the 70-member Assembly, which is witnessing its second election in a over a year following a hung verdict in December 2013. Sixty-three contestants are women.

Opinion polls have come out with varying predictions of who will be the winner. Some say the BJP will edge past the AAP to take power while others have said that the AAP will be an outright winner.

Counting of votes will take place on February 10.
