New Delhi: A 20-year-old B Tech student of Delhi University's Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College on Monday allegedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the third floor of the institution's building.

The girl, who was apparently under depression over her studies, however, survived the jump, but has suffered fractures in her leg and spinal cord.

She is a student of B Tech second year of computer Science branch.

The incident took place around 1 pm and college principal Jaswinder Singh rushed her to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital himself.

She was later shifted to Trauma Centre where her condition is said to be out of danger.

Police has recovered a two-page suicide note from her in which the girl has said that she was under stress over her studies.

"She was probably depressed over the way she was faring out in her studies. In the suicide note, she has said that she was too dependent on her friends for her studies," said a senior police official.

A police investigation, however, revealed that the girl was in fact good in studies as the college principal told them that she had scored 75 per cent marks in the second semester.

"The girl had jumped from the third floor, computer block of Khalsa College. Her family has been informed about the incident. We have recovered a suicide note from her in which she has attributed study-related pressure for the extreme step," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.

The girl lives with his family in Faridabad, Haryana and her father is a private company employee. The girl used to commute everyday from the neighbouring town of the Delhi to her college situated in north campus.
