EC serves show cause notice on Delhi Cong chief

State Election Commission served a show cause notice on Delhi Congress president JP Agarwal.

New Delhi: The State Election Commission
in Wednesday served a show cause notice on Delhi Congress president J
P Agarwal for allegedly seeking vote during a campaign for the
municipal polls on religious ground.

The Commission issued the notice after Delhi BJP
president Vijender Gupta and senior party leader V K Malhotra
submitted a memorandum to Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta
demanding action against Agarwal for "violating" election code
of conduct by allegedly seeking votes on religious ground.
Officials of the Commission said Agarwal has been told to
file his reply to the notice by tomorrow.

Malhotra has submitted a media report to substantiate its
allegation against Agarwal.
When sought his reaction, the DPCC president said he was
yet to receive the notice from the Commission and noted that
he did not remember making such statements.

"I have not received the notice. I have been addressing
series of election meetings across the city. I do not remember
making such statements as claimed," he said.
The BJP delegation demanded filing of an FIR against
Aggarwal by the Commission for allegedly violating the
election code of conduct.
