New Delhi: Smile and be courteous to
visitors - is the message of the Tourism Ministry to
immigration officials during the Commonwealth Games.
"Being the first point of interaction for the tourists,
immigration officials create the first impression about the
country and its people. Therefore, they should maintain a
tourist-friendly approach and a smiling face all the time,"
Tourism Secretary Sujit Banerjee told immigration officials at
the concluding sesion of training programme for them.
Aiming at maintaining utmost courtesy and warmth towards
vistors during the Games, the Ministry has conducted a
training programmes for immigration officials.
Banerjee said the CWG 2010 will have a long-term impact on
tourism and hospitality sector and "so it should be collective
effort of all of us to put best foot forward to showcase the
spirit of Atithi Devo Bhavah".
Immigration officials are mostly drawn from the police and
hence have a totally different orientation from that required
in a service industry like tourism.

enhancement in behavioural aspects of immigration officials,"

The officials work in a very tough environment having duty
shifts of 12 hours without off duty time but they are the
public face of "Incredible India".
The training programme covers the important aspects of
tourism and behavioural aspects like cross-cultural
communication, manners, etiquette, positive attitude, group
behaviour, handling stress and time management.
