New Delhi: Eight persons were detained
here today for allegedly entering into a plot by razing its
boundary wall and trying to build a religious structure,
police said.

The incident occurred in Ganga Vihar in north-east
Delhi`s Gokulpuri this morning and eight persons, including
Rashtravadi Shiv Sena chief Jai Bhagvan Goel, were detained.

Goel and some locals had gone to the spot and entered
into a scuffle with certain other residents of the locality.
The owner, who belongs to the same religion, had recently won
a legal battle to construct a boundary wall in the 3,500
square yard plot.

"Ramlila used to be conducted at the plot earlier.
Locals wanted the plot to be kept open for the needs of the
community. However, the land owner had built a boundary wall
after procuring a court order," a senior police official said.

This morning Goel and the locals went to the spot and
allegedly razed the wall and entered the plot. "They wanted to
conduct some `jalabhishek`. However, they were resisted," the
official said.

The associates of Goel allegedly set two chairs on
fire besides damaging a vehicle of the care-taker.

A case of rioting and house trespass has been
registered. Further investigations are on.
