New Delhi: A 29-year-old software engineer
bled to death in west Delhi after unidentified persons cut the
veins of his wrists and legs during a suspected robbery when
he was returning from his sister`s flat after celebrating his
birthday, police said today.

Vivek Bharadwaj, who works in a software firm in Noida,
was returning to his Janakpuri C-I Block flat after having
dinner at his sister`s place nearby at around 11 pm when he
was attacked by unknown men, a senior police official said.

After returning from work, Vivek goes to his sister`s
flat in C-2 Block to have dinner. "Yesterday was his birthday
and he celebrated it there," the official said.

While returning, the official said, Vivek was waylaid by
some persons who cut veins of his wrists and legs.

"Probably he was talking over phone when he was attacked.
He was well built and we assume he tried to resist and give
them a fight when he was attacked with knife on legs, arms and
thighs. The deepest cut was on his thigh which led to his
death because of excessive bleeding," the official said.

"He bled to death on the roads. A passerby saw him and
rushed him to hospital. He received his last call on mobile at
10:40 pm and he was found bleeding by the passerby at 11 pm,"
the official said.

Investigators suspect it to be a case of robbery as
Vivek`s money and ATM and credit cards were missing along with
his cell-phone. However, his wallet was found near his body.

Police was informed by authorities of Deen Dayal Upadhyay
hospital where Vivek was rushed. They also informed the family
members.

Vivek hails from Punjab`s Hoshiarpur. He is survived by
his wife and an 18-month-old child, the official said. His
body has been taken away to Hoshiarpur by his relatives in
Delhi. Vivek used to stay alone in his flat which was 15
minute`s walk from his sister`s place.
